Everything You Need To Know About The Vampire Facelift

The vampire craze has now trickled into the offices of cosmetic surgeons, thanks to an innovative procedure that appears to have left even Kim Kardashian with a bloody face. The vampire facelift is used to turn back the clock on the skin, by eliminating the appearance of fine lines and adding youthful volume to the facial contour. The name of the procedure is somewhat misleading, however, since it does not involve a vampire’s bite or a surgical facelift procedure.

What is the Vampire Facelift?

The vampire facelift involves a new technology known as Selphyl, which uses a mixture of the patient’s own blood to fill in fine lines and facial wrinkles. Blood is drawn from the patient and then treated to separate out the platelet rich plasma or PRP. The PRP is then injected into the patient’s skin, adding volume and stimulating the production of additional collagen and elastin by the body.

Results of the vampire facelift can be seen rfight away, although results do tend to improve over time. The procedure can be used on the following skin imperfections:

• Fine lines and wrinkles
• Loose, sagging skin
• Shallow scars from acne or surgery

The procedure can also be used to add volume to small areas of the face, such as the area under the eyes or the cheeks. Because there is a limited amount of the substance to use in each procedure, vampire facelifts are not typically recommended for larger treatment areas.

What is the Procedure Like?

A vampire facelift is actually less creepy than it sounds. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis, using topical anesthetic. Blood is first drawn and prepared for the injection process. The treatment area is than numbed and the PRP solution is injected using very fine needles. The entire session usually takes less than 30 minutes to complete, depending on the number of areas to be addressed.

Patients are able to return to normal activities immediately after the procedure. There may be some minor bruising or swelling at the injection sites, although this is typically less than what is seen with other dermal filler injections. Results will improve over the next few weeks. Most patients enjoy results for up to 15 months before a touch-up treatment is needed.
